Smiles

Every day I make a goal to get at least one thing done like laundry, a craft, or cleaning. Calvin cries a lot and sometimes doesn't nap much, so it is hard to get stuff done since I have to hold him all the time. Last night this little guy gave me a good amount of sleep, and today he slept a lot so I got a ton done!

This is what I did:
  • Got dressed
  • Baked some cookies
  • Loaded and started the dishwasher
  • Vacuumed
  • Picked up the clutter around the house
  • Took cookies to Evan at school
  • Went to the BYU Bookstore
  • Went to the dollar store
  • Cleaned the bathroom
  • Cleaned the kitchen sink
  • Swept the floor
  • Unloaded the dishwasher
  • Looked up ideas for my next art project for the kitchen
  • Worked on the family tree I'm making for Calvin's room
  • Fed and changed Calvin a few times
  • Wrote a blog post

What a successful day!

This little guy is so cute!

He has started smiling at us instead of just smiling as a reflex. This morning he gave me a big smile while I was changing his diaper. Here are some pictures of him:

And here's a video of him kinda smiling.

Calvin's first day at church

We've been avoiding taking Calvin to church (or anywhere else with lots of people) because we don't want him to get sick (The doctors told us not to take him out for several months). But today we decided to take him to church for the first time. I was afraid he was just going to cry the entire time but he was really good! He slept through sacrament meeting and half of Sunday school, then ate and was good in the last 20 minutes of Relief Society. What a blessing. Now if we can get him to be that good for his baby blessing... I'm really afraid he is going to scream through the whole thing and spit up on everyone.

Valentines day and a haircut

Calvin has had weird hair from the beginning. He had a really long section in the middle of the top of his head and long hair along the back and sides. Basically, he had old man hair. So yesterday we gave him a haircut.

Before:

After:

Check out his shoes!
And this is what we ate for Valentine's day:
Evan made the breakfast all by himself and made most of the dinner.

It is impossible to get a good picture of the kid

Last Saturday (Feb 6), Evan and I went to GOTHE and got some free baby stuff. My two favorite items are his swing and his bathrobe. The swing needs a little makeover, but who knows when I'll get around to doing that.

He's so cute when he is sleeping in my arms! Can you tell he inherited my double chin? Lucky guy.

We have no idea what we are doing

Sorry. No pictures in this post.

Anyone know how to take care of a baby? 'Cause we sure don't. Well, we know how to keep him alive and healthy (we think), but we don't know how to get peace and quiet around here. It seems like as soon as we figure out how to keep Calvin quiet or get him to sleep, he throws us a curveball and whatever was working no longer works.

Examples:

The pacifier

The nurses at the hospital got Calvin hooked on a pacifier, which was fine with us because it worked great for keeping him quiet. We even went as far as to say he loves his pacifier. Now it only works when he is already quiet.

Going to sleep

At first, Evan would put Calvin to bed by laying on the couch with him until he fell asleep. That worked great for a couple of days. Then Calvin started a tradition of crying around 9 pm, right when we wanted to put him to bed. We finally started getting him to go to sleep around 11pm by holding him in the dark after I fed him. Now he wakes up every time we put him in his crib, so the past few days we have been holding his pacifier in his mouth and putting our hand on his chest until he falls asleep in his crib. That was working great until last night.

Sleeping through the night

Yesterday we decided that Calvin is really good at sleeping at night. He is hard to put to sleep initially, but he sleeps for 4 or 5 hours and goes back to sleep quickly after I get up to feed him. But last night he stayed awake from 2:35 until 5:45. I think he just wants to prove us wrong on everything.

Nursing

Calvin and I finally got in a rhythm last week where I was comfortable and he was eating well. However, the last two days I went back to feeling like I did three or four weeks ago when half my milk wouldn't let down. That hurts.

Don't worry though. We still love Calvin.

Calvin's hats

Calvin has a lot of hats. Here are a few of them.

This is the hat I made for Calvin before he was born.

Lana and Devin gave us this hat with matching gloves and socks. Very cute!

My visiting teacher gave us this cupcake hat today. Pretty funny!

Who needs sleep anyway?

The last few days, right around the time Evan and I want to go to bed, Calvin has decided to start crying unconsolably. Luckily though, once he goes to sleep, he is pretty easy to put back to bed later at night after I feed him. Right now Evan is trying to put him to bed. While I wait I thought I'd post a few pictures.

Potty training time!!

One month down, 11 to go

Calvin is one month old today! Can you believe it?

That means I am 1/12 done nursing him (if I make it to a year).

So, you know how everyone says that nursing your baby helps you bond with them? I don't believe it at all. I think I'd bond better with him by feeding him a bottle. I won't go into all the details of why here on this public blog, but I can't wait to be done nursing. Too bad formula is so expensive and it isn't as good for the baby.

4 weeks

Check out what fell off last night between 8pm and 1am last night!

Calvin is now the proud owner of a belly button! (Only 2 weeks later than scheduled.)

This is what I dress Calvin in when we go outside. It is big enough to fit over his other clothes and keeps him nice and warm.

Additional Picture

Sadie loves Calvin, but my(Evan) mom's post on her blog shows some of the dangers that loving cousins can pose. Especially if the lover is older than the lovee.

Some pictures

Evan and I watched Coraline in 3D. That was a weird movie.

This is Calvin with Aunt Lindsey and cousin Sadie. Sadie is Calvin's only cousin so far and she loves Calvin. When she was here she wanted to give him lots of hugs and kisses.

Here is Calvin, asleep in bed. Pretty funny!

This is him right after a bath. He doesn't like baths much.
